New Friends of Kansas City is supporting the Cross-lines Cooperative Counsel and Newhouse Shelter for Battered Women as well as other charities selected yearly.

Cross-lines is a not-for-profit organization with programs designed to prevent homelessness. Cross-lines provides family services such as emergency assistance in the form of food and utility assistance and community services such as a thrift store, school supplies, a Christmas store, and community education opportunities.

Several of our members spend a day in December helping Cross-lines with the Christmas store. We walk with applicants through the store helping them pick out clothing items for Christmas presents. The store also provides toys and food.

NEWHOUSE offers a 24 hour-a-day fully staffed residential domestic violence education program and shelter for battered women and their children. Its mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence by providing the tools that allow women to make positive choices and lead self-sufficient lives.

Each month we collect food, clothing, personal items and cash donations to help those in need.
